  1. Renovation of the heart What does it mean to be healthy?

  2. Renovation of the heart Revitalization • An act of renewal from God • that begins with turning from sin • And a recovery of the Gospel.

  3. Pursuing Spiritual Health The gospel says • You and I were created for a relationship with God. • Our sin separated us from that relationship. • There is nothing that we can do to reconcile this relationship on our own.

Pursuing Spiritual Health The gospel says • Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin. • Jesus rose from the dead that we might have life, now and eternally. • Jesus offers eternal life (or a reconciled relationship) to those who will repent of their sin by placing faith in Jesus Christ.

  5. Pursuing Spiritual Health Spiritual health is a vibrant relationship with God characterized by utter dependence on him, spiritual fruitfulness, prayer, love, obedience, and joy.

  6. Pursuing Spiritual Health The Father has invested the life of his Son to give us live and to ensure what we remain fruitful.

  7. Pursuing Spiritual Health A Vibrant relationship with God characterized by • Utter dependence on God • Jesus is the true vine our source of life. • The Father is the vinedresser who guarantees fruitfulness

  8. Pursuing Spiritual Health A Vibrant relationship with God characterized by • Spiritual fruitfulness • God desires fruitfulness in the life of the believer. • One tool God uses is suffering.

  9. Pursuing Spiritual Health A Vibrant relationship with God characterized by • Prayer • Prayer is talking with God based on his word.

  10. Pursuing Spiritual Health A Vibrant relationship with God characterized by • Love • Jesus loves us the same way the Father loves him. • We love Jesus the same way Jesus loves the Father.

  11. Pursuing Spiritual Health A Vibrant relationship with God characterized by • Obedience • Abiding in love looks like obedience to Jesus.

  12. Pursuing Spiritual Health A Vibrant relationship with God characterized by • Joy • Joy is the natural byproduct of our relationship with Jesus. • Jesus’ design is that our joy be full.

  13. Pursuing Spiritual Health Take Away – what does this look like? • What spiritual health is not • Material wealth (or poverty) • Social Status • Theological knowledge • Amazement (vs. faith)
