  1. Getting Into Alcohol Addiction Treatment Addiction to alcohol over lengths of time can cause profound damage to the systems of the body and a number of different health problems can result. Sometimes these health problems actually make the addiction worse because they are painful conditions. Nerve damage can result from chronic dietary deficiencies and development of liver problems can contribute to a variety of inflammatory and pain related disorders. Imbalances in hormones and neurotransmitters can cause some serious psychiatric issues as well and this needs to be addressed.
