  1. Buying and Starting the Home Remodeling Process B uying your first home can be an exciting endeavor. However, most homes are not exactly what you are looking for, but many home remodeling projects can be done to make your house custom to your specifications. If you have purchased a new home, and are wondering where to begin with this process, here are a few simple suggestions to think about as you begin the home remodeling process. Start with the Simple Home Remodeling Projects There is a difference between home remodeling and home redecorating. Decorating usually follows home remodeling- focusing more on fabrics, paint, and other forms of décor. Home remodeling is a more extensive process, usually requiring both demolition and reconstruction. If you are attempting to do home remodeling on your own, it is best to start with simple projects first. Before you begin any project, you should do some research. You don’t want to hang new drywall if you need to install new electric or plumbing. Home remodeling requires the ability to think ahead, to ensure that you do not have to do the work twice. You will want to research what supplies you will need, what the cost of labor would be if you need to hire out, and how long a project should take you. Financing Home Remodeling Projects You have just spent thousands of dollars purchasing a new home. Prior to purchasing the home, after you attend the open house and have the inspection taken care of, you may be able to talk the

By starting with simple projects, you may be able to afford several small projects, acquire the tools necessary to complete larger projects, and learn some of the how-to’s that will help you in the future. There are some grants available for new homeowners to help them with home remodeling projects, and even some tax deductions may be applicable depending on your circumstance. By saving a little money, say 10% of your paycheck each month, you will be able to conquer one or two projects per year. Some projects can cost tens of thousands of dollars, life roofing, so in the process of saving for your home remodeling projects, keep an eye out for used building supplies or tools that may come in handy later. Precautions for Home Remodeling If you have purchased an older home, there are two things that you really need to be aware of if you are starting home remodeling projects. The first is asbestos, and the second is lead. Older homes were constructed with materials that don’t necessarily meet today’s codes. As you complete building permits, you may want a professional to come in and examine the room that you are remodeling to see if any mitigation is necessary. Home remodeling doesn’t have to be a daunting process as a new homeowner. You have all the time in the world to make yourself a home. Take your time to do the research involved. As time goes on and decades pass, you may find yourself repeating this process to update your living space. Your house is your sanctuary, and there are plenty of opportunities to learn throughout the process. Source: http://www.homesofreston.com/buying-and-starting-the-home-remodeling-process.htm
