  1. WANT TO BECOME A DIVORCE ATTORNEY? When looking for a job or career what do you search for? A huge salary? A lot of respect and rewards at the end of it? Security and comfort of knowing you have enough money to fund your lifestyle right up until retirement, that gives you pleasure to no end. What job do you try to achieve? Office Jobs tend to have the job security and the income but could you feel rewarded or would it become monotonous? What about an entrepreneur? Be your own boss, could you have the determination and skill set required to run a successful business? Have you considered becoming a divorce attorney? If so, here is what you should know about what this job entails. The salary can range anything from around $25,000 a year as a starting point up to the height of an attorney’s career at a staggering $120,000 figure. To even get to that point, you need a lot of qualifications and licenses. Typically, it is expected to earn both a Juris Doctor and Bachelor degree for starters. For the Juris Doctor, you should be studying full-time for around three years, and you’d gain a graduate entry type degree. The Bachelor degree is also approximately three year’s worth of study. To get into law school, you need to get approval from the ABA, which stands for The American Bar Association. This organization is in place to represent the legal profession. It has around 400,000 members and serves both the professionals and the community by promoting justice as well as upholding the law. Once you have got these degrees, you would then have to take what is called a state bar exam. This is essentially an extra test to see if you are qualified to practice law.

  2. It is not as easy as entering a job where you can learn as you go along, you need to be as prepared as you can be for your client and by future proofing yourself as best as possible, becoming a divorce attorney requires experience, strong interpersonal skills and ultimately the knowledge. Communication is key too. You need to know how to best represent your client with the power of speech. When the case reaches court, you do not want to stand and talk to the judge without a good train of thought in your head. Some may say you should also have quick thinking, smart thinking; you do not want to trip up and make mistakes which could cost your client in the long run, that would quickly ruin your reputation. As you are dealing with assisting clients split from marriages, you also need to be more than capable of dealing with the facts. The little details, like how to work out asset divisions, finances and property are a big part of the job. You need to have that skill confidently. These are some of the basics; it is not a career you try out and then walk from, typically once you have earned your job you tend to stick with it.
