  1. EVALUATING THE CONDITION OF YOUR CAR FOR BASIC CAR RESTORATION When you want to upgrade your car or simply want to make it look and work better, you may consider following a restoration protocol. For basic car restoration, you first need to determine the level of restoration you need to perform to your car. Here are a few things to consider while evaluating the condition of your car. Take a piece of paper, find a parts catalog relevant to the model of your car, and devise a plan. You should have a plan right from the word go to ensure proper restoration. Spend some time inspecting your car. You have to inspect it carefully, inside and out. Get strong flashlights to take a closer look at everything in the trunk, the engine, and everything else. This inspection will help you determine the type of repairs your car needs. It is even better to take your car to a car shop where you can have it lifted to check how good it looks. This will also tell you if you should really be going any further with basic car restoration or not. Find out about the condition of the frame, axles, floor, etc. In other words, you need to know if you have a “solid” car that will work great after restoration. Performing this step early in your inspection can save you a lot of money later. It is okay if you notice a little rust there, but you should be going forward with car restoration only when you know the structure of your car is still strong. There is no point in wasting time and money in restoring a car with a seriously rusty frame. No matter what you do, this car will eventually crumble. Consider working with a friend or someone who knows a bit about car repairs. This will help you to ensure that you are following the right procedures from the word go. If you do not have complete knowledge about car restoration, your car may only run for a year or two and start to breakdown thereafter. Therefore, it is better to ask a professional for some assistance when you are not sure about something.

  2. Be sure to have enough space as well as the right tools and equipment for basic car restoration. This is especially important when you do not want a classic car specialist to take charge of things. You need to bear in mind that you will have to invest a lot of money just to arrange special tools, equipment, and materials required to restore your car. Some of the most common tools to complete one such project include pliers, screwdrivers, a drill with drill bits, sockets and a wrench, floor jack, sheet metal scissors, wire brushes, and electrical tools, such as voltage checker, air compressor, etc. You may also require some tools like grinders, welder, and blowtorch that require specialist skill and knowledge. Use these tools only when you know how to handle them safely. Articles source: http://zemsib.com/evaluating-condition-car-basic-car-restoration/
