Natural ProtectedAreas • Are the environmental policy instrument for biodiversity conservation. • They are terrestrial or aquatic portions of the country representing the various ecosystems, where the original environment has not been essentially altered and produce environmental benefits are increasingly recognized and valued. • They are created by presidential decree and activities that can be performed on them are established in accordance with the General Law of Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection, its rules, program management and environmental planning programs.

  3. National Commission for Protected Natural Areas Responsible for the management of protected natural areas under federal jurisdiction, in accordance with what is established in the General Law of Ecological Balance and Environmental Protection and the Regulation on the matter.
