  1. Ch. 13 He demonstrates humble hospitality. He highlights the importance of sacred rituals, in this case by the footwashing

  2. Ch. 14 He shows them that they’re a family, children in the Father’s house, not orphans. He reminds us that God and Jesus dwell with us (ἐλευσόμεθα καὶ μονὴν παρ᾽ αὐτῷ ποιησόμεθα). He gives them the Holy Spirit and expects them to rely on it.

  3. Ch. 15 Love one another, AS I HAVE LOVED YOU. Stay connected to Jesus in order to stay fruitfully connected with each other (vine and branches metaphor)

  4. Ch. 16 acknowledging their pain and grief as legitimate grounding their grief in hope

  5. Ch. 17 Intercessory prayer Calling them to worthwhile work Reminding them that they are more than the sum of their parts; the will only accomplish GREATER WORKS if they combine efforts

  6. John 20:30-31 20:30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. 31 But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.
