  8. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS • What are the problems and impediments to increasing GIS in your organization? • There are differences in the needs of smaller organizations with respect to large ones • Financial resources are much less in smaller organizations • DDO clients are often elected or appointed officials, so in many cases there is no long-term interest • Maintaining support for GIS is a problem

  9. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS • What are the positive attributes of this conference? • Regional nature • Variety of organizations and people • Wide variety of topics – federal, state and local • How would you define success for this conference? What about the size and scope? • Large number of attendees doesn’t ensure quality and relevance • Smaller size offers more opportunity to interact • Subject matter scope this year was good!

  10. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS • How can DDAA expand GIS education? Through the region? Through NADO? • Include more “success stories” • Market the solutions aspect of GIS and the conference • How can FGDC and NADO work together? Are there natural ties? • There is a common interest at the federal level • Create and develop dialog at the national level through NADO headquarters in Washington, DC

  11. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS • Where would you like to see the conference go? • Emphasize solutions not just technology • How does GIS as a tool help achieve a goal • More case studies – seeing is believing! • Get more DDL executive directors to the conference • Emphasize solutions! • Increase information exchange between techies and executives

  12. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS • Sharpen focus of this conference – deemphasize the GIS label • Focus program on “regionally significant investments” in infrastructure • Include “return on investment” sessions in program – that will attract executives and managers • Invite state GIS directors within region to participate on the program (ie: panel discussion)
