The pyramid of Kukulán was used as a temple. • The ruins of ChichénItzá are federal property, and the site’s stewardship is maintained by Mexico’s InstitutoNacional de Antropología e Historia (National Institute of Anthropology and History, INAH).

México • What are some well known universities in your area? • La Universidad NacionalAutónoma de México: Is one of the oldest Universities in the Americas and the largest public university in México, with over 270,000 students. The library’s mosaic mural depicts monuments in the cultural history of México.

  15. Frida Kahlo • Mexican artist Frida Kahlo painted many self portraits of, including Autorretrato con collar. She was influenced by the indigenous cultures of México in both her style of painting and style of clothing. She often wore traditional native clothing, as depicted in the photograph. • She suffered serious injuries in a car/trolley accident where she broke her collarbone, pelvis and spinal cord, amongst other things. • She was also known for her marriage to Diego Rivera, another well known artist.

  17. Diego Rivera • Diego Rivera was a prominent Mexican artist that was known for his murals in México. • He started to draw when he was the age of three, a year after his twin brother’s death. His parents caught him drawing on the wall. Instead of punishing him, they installed chalkboards and canvas on the walls.
