  1. Creative Entrepreneur Independent Learner Reflective Learner Responsible Citizen Positive Thinker Team Worker Real life cross/curricular links? Where are we in our journey? Which ones are you using? Enterprise Skills LESSON OBJECTIVES Always aim high! We are learning to: • Enhance our Mathematical learning skills. (Which Enterprise skills?) • Accurately plot co-ordinates on a pair of axes. (Levels 4-5) AUTHOR www.mistrymaths.co.uk

(x , y) Along the corridor and up or down the stairs Left (-) or Right (+) Up (+) or down (-) EXAMPLE The picture shows a map of an island. Write down the co-ordinates of all the places. (5,7) (-5,4) (5,1) (-5,2) (2,3) = (-3,-1) (-5,-3) (2,-2) (4,-4) (-3,-5)

  10. CO-ORDINATES Creative Entrepreneur Independent Learner Reflective Learner Responsible Citizen Positive Thinker Team Worker Enterprise Skills Which ones are you using? TASK 5 (LEVEL 5) - DECODING Decode the following co-ordinates: (a) (3,2), (2,2), (0,0), (5,0), (3,4) P O I N T (b) (-1,3), (-4,3), (4,-2), (3,-3) I S A X (c) (-5,-1), (-2,-1), (-3,-5), (-2,0), (4,-2), (-2,-3) O R I G N I

  11. CO-ORDINATES Creative Entrepreneur Independent Learner Reflective Learner Responsible Citizen Positive Thinker Team Worker Enterprise Skills Which ones are you using? TASK 6 (LEVEL 5) – CARTOON CO-ORDINATES Plot each point, joining them up as you plot them USING A RULER. Stop at each * and start again on the next section. DO NOT JOIN TOGETHER THE LAST POINT OF ONE SECTION WITH THE FIRST ONE OF THE NEXT SECTION !

  12. CO-ORDINATES Creative Entrepreneur Independent Learner Reflective Learner Responsible Citizen Positive Thinker Team Worker Enterprise Skills Which ones are you using? CO-ORDINATES GAME Students are given a 6x6 grid and two dice of differing colours. Students take it in turns to roll the dice and each dice corresponds with a co-ordinate point. The student then writes down their set of co-ordinates and initials the point on the grid. The opposite player then takes their turn. Play continues until someone has three crosses in a row and then they are the winner. If a student throws the dice and that co-ordinate has gone they miss that go.

  13. Creative Entrepreneur Independent Learner Reflective Learner Responsible Citizen Positive Thinker Team Worker ALGEBRAIC SUBSTITUTION Enterprise Skills Which ones are you using? EXTENSION (LEVEL 5) – SOLVE THE MYSTERY Use the clues to work out the location of coordinates A, B, C, D, E and F Answers A) (2, 7) B) (1, 3) C) (1, 6) D) (4, 3)

  14. CO-ORDINATES Creative Entrepreneur Independent Learner Reflective Learner Responsible Citizen Positive Thinker Team Worker Enterprise Skills Which ones are you using? MINI-PLENARY ACTIVITY – TRUE OR FALSE TRUE FALSE TASK True or false. When plotting co-ordinates: 1) It doesn’t matter which axes you use first 2) The first number is the x value. 3) The x value has to be less than or equal to the y value. 4) The coordinate (2,1) is the same as (1,2)

  15. Creative Entrepreneur Independent Learner Reflective Learner Responsible Citizen Positive Thinker Team Worker • LINK BACK TO OBJECTIVES • Accurately plot co-ordinates on a pair of axes. What level are we working at? DISCOVERY Enterprise Skills Which ones are you using?
