  2. Multiplying Fractions Look at the numerator and denominator that are opposite of one another. The two red circled numbers are opposite one another as are the two blue circled numbers. Click here for next slide

  3. Multiplying Fractions You are checking to see if the two same colored numbers share a common factor. Click here for next slide

  4. Multiplying Fractions In this example, both sets of numbers share a common factor. The red numbers Share the common factor 2 and the blue numbers share the common factor 3. Click here for next slide

  5. Multiplying Fractions 2 2 3 3 Now that you have determined common factors, you will use these factors to divide both numbers by. This process is called cross canceling. Click here for next slide

  6. Multiplying Fractions 2 2 3 3 After dividing by the common factors replace all numerators and denominators by the answer to the division. Click here for next slide

  7. Multiplying Fractions Now that you have finished cross canceling it is time to multiply your fractions. You Multiply the numerator by the numerator and the denominator by the denominator. Click here for next slide
