  2. Feed Research Institute • Was founded in 1973. • The main scientific and methodological institution of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Ukraine in terms of “Feed Production”, • It coordinates research works on feed production of more than 30 scientific institutions of Ukraine. • There are 158 workers in the Institute. Among them 63 research officers, 26 Candidates of Sciences, 6 Doctors of Sciences, 1 Academician, and 1 Corresponding Member of UAAS.

  4. Importance of High Protein Crops: • Key factor of production intensification of the products of plant growing and livestock breeding; • Formation of the own protein resources; • Increase of soil fertility and biologizationof agriculture; • Extension of export of high protein ingredients; • Provision of state food safety.

  5. Feed Resources: • Creation of high productive varieties of feed crops with improved quality and increased level of adoptive potential; • Improvement of the technologies of their seed growing.

  6. Production: Progressive systems of field feed production: • Zoned optimization of the structure of areas under feed crops; • Raw material conveyers for feed production; • Growing technologies of annual and perennial legumes and cereals. Improvement of the technology of creation and use of pastures and haylands: • Pastures for cattle-breeding; • Organization of public pastures; • Grassing of low-field and out-of-use sloped lands.

  7. Feed Storage • New technologies of hay, haylage and silage storage; • Study of the mechanism of preserving action of new preservatives of mineral and organic origin for storing hay and haylage in rolls, silage in trenches and clamps, and damp grain in storage rooms and elevators; • Recipes of mixed fodder.

  8. Feed and Raw Material Quality • Monitoring of production and quality of feeds and raw materials; • Updating of the database of chemical composition and feed nutritiousness; • Ways for the increase of productive action of feed protein of vegetable and animal origin; • Development of the compounding of mixed fodders for cattle and poultry feeding due to the mineral, mineral-vitamin mixtures and enzyme complexes; • Improvement of methods for zoo-technical feed estimation; • Preparation and harmonization of State standards on production and use of feed resources for those accepted in European Union.

Feed Use • Creation of feed base for progressive systems of animal feeding; • Substantiation of effective concentrates in the composition of balanced feed mixtures during feeding high productive cows; • Balancing diets for high productive cows due to the indices of feed alkali-acid capacity when feeding them with fodders of the same type.

  10. The Main Directions of Scientific Researches • Intensification of field feed production, solving the problem of feed protein concerning soil and climatic zones of the country. • Creation and intensive use of haylands and pastures, increase of natural feed land productivity, development of methods of using sloping lands. • Design and introduction of progressive technologies of high protein and high-energy crops cultivation. • Development of new plant selection methods and creation of new competitive varieties and hybrids of feed crops and grain legumes on their basis. • Development and assimilation of the system of industrial seed-growing of feed crops. Production of the original and elite seeds of feed, grain legume, grain forage and other crops. • Intensification of feed production on irrigated and grained areas. • Scientifically substantiated systems of feed crop fertilization. • Integrated systems of weed, pest and disease control of feed crops.

  11. Development and assimilation of the system of industrial seed-growing of feed crops. Production of the original and elite seeds of feed, grain legume, grain forage and other crops. • Intensification of feed production on irrigated and grained areas. • Scientifically substantiated systems of feed crop fertilization. • Integrated systems of weed, pest and disease control of feed crops. • Development of resources and energy saving technologies of storage, conservation and use of feed, mixed fodder and premixes composition. • Development of new and improvement of existing methods of feed nutritiousness, raw material and feed quality rating. • Development of the concepts of zonal specialization and economics of feed production, state programs of feed production development. • Coordination and methodical management of researches conducted by research institutions due to the State Scientific Technical Program “Feed Production”. • Introduction and popularization of science achievements and advanced feed production experience. • Scientific personnel training. • Extension service on the problems of agro-industrial complex branches and countryside development.

  12. Our initiatives: • Creating a common high varieties of forage crops and soya with improved quality and increased level of adaptive capacity; • Development and improvement of modern technologies of feed in the field and pasture feed production; • Development of integrated protection system of forage crops from weeds. Researching ways to prevent the emergence of resistance in weeds; • Study the mechanism of preserving action of new conserving agents of mineral and organic origin for storage of hay and silage; • Creating feed additives to enhance productivity and reproductive ability of animals; • Monitoring of production and quality of feed and raw materials as well as improving methods of assessment of livestock feed
