  1. Global Warming(Real) And Human Caused Paul Wilkins

  2. What Is Global Warming • Global Warming is nothing more than the increase of Earth's average surface temperature due to the effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth and this causes the called the Green House effect

  3. The Greenhouse Effect • When the suns radiations reach our atmosphere some of it is reflected back into outer space and some of that radiation passes through the atmosphere and is absorbed by the earth and the heat is kept close to the earth surface causing the earth to warming up. Then the heat from the earth is radiated outward and absorbed by the greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere. This keeps the heat from disappearing into space and keeps the earth warm enough just to sustain life (Global Warming Fast Facts).

  4. Human Caused • “The report, based on the work of some 2,500 scientists in more than 130 countries, concluded that humans have caused all or most of the current planetary warming(Global Warming Fast Facts).”

  5. Human Contributions to Global Warming • Industrialization • -Burning of fossil fuels ie. Coal,Gasor Oil. • Deforestation

  6. Deforestation • According to the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), a leading green group, 32 million acres of tropical rainforest were cut down each year between 2000 and 2009—and the pace of deforestation is only increasing. “Unless we change the present system that rewards forest destruction, forest clearing will put another 200 billion tons of carbon into the atmosphere in coming decades…,” says EDF

  7. Various Problems • Weather (temperature raise) • Intense hurricane and floods • Wildfires • Wildlife, as many as a third of the species known to science may be at risk of extinction

  8. A Possible Argument We had record snows in the winter of 2009-2010 and also in 2010-2011.

  9. The Counter Claim • Our local weather tells us nothing about another continent, or the global average; it is only a local effect, determined by short-term atmospheric and oceano-graphic conditions. In fact, warmer global temperatures mean more moisture in the atmosphere, which increases the intensity of normal winter snowstorms. In this particular case, the climate change critics forget that the early winter of November-December 2009 was actually very mild and warm, and then only later in January and February did it get cold and snow heavily.

  10. Counter Claim Cont. • That warm spell in early winter helped bring more moisture into the system, so that when cold weather occurred, the snows were worse. In addition, the snows were unusually heavy only in North America; the rest of the world had different weather, and the global climate was warmer than average. (How We Know Global Warming is Real and Human Caused).”

  11. What can we do as humans • Plant small Gardens/Trees. • Cut back on how we use electricity -Turn off lights if not needed -Light bulbs • Use city transit for transportation to cut on using automobiles so much (low emission)

  12. Green Peace This organizations main campaign is to put a stop to global warming. One solution Green Peace proposes is by having renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and geothermal can provide 96% of our electricity and 98% of our total heating demand. www.greenpeace.org

  13. A World Without This Solution • Heat Waves • Heavy rains • Droughts • Stronger storms • Biodiversity

  14. A World With This Solution

  15. Conclusion • Global Warming and how we human contribute to it. • It’s impacts • What we can do to help.
