  3. Problem • Increasing Array of Online Resources With a Variety of Interfaces • Some Students Do Not Come to the Library • Many Classes Are Online Only or Have Online Component • We Know That Databases Are Not Used to Full Potential

  4. Objectives • Increase Accessibility and Visibility of Electronic Resources • Increase Students’ Confidence In Using Online Resources and Evaluating Results • Increase Promotion of Library Resources and Services • Increase Students’ Ability to Do Research

  5. Brainstorming for Ideas • How Could We Complement Existing Instruction? • How Can We Reach More Patrons? • How Can We Better Market Our Resources? • Can We Do So in a Medium That Students Are Already Comfortable With? • Can We Do So at an Affordable Cost?

  6. Plan • Develop A Couple of Tutorials • Meet with Faculty to Get Feedback • Create More Online Tutorials • Increase Visibility and Promote Resources • Realize That This is But a Beginning

  7. Increased Communication • Increased Contact With Faculty • Meetings with Faculty • Blogs on Axe News Blog • Instant Messaging • Facebook Account

  8. Online Tutorials & Web Presence • Created Simple Online Tutorials • Created a Facebook Account • Added Links to YouTube Videos to Facebook • Wrote Axe News Blogs and Emailed Faculty About Blogs

  11. Results • Little Cost Involved Except Staff Time • We Increased Accessibility and Visibility of Resources • Helped Patrons Become More Familiar With and At Ease Using Online Resources • Around 629 views of the tutorials • Statistics on Use of Online Resources

  12. Results, Continued • Emailed Many Faculty and Included a Link to the YouTube channel • Sent Messages to Faculty on Facebook • Met Personally With Faculty • Introduced It in Instruction Sessions • Progressive Faculty Who Are Excited About Technology Were Excited About the Tutorials

  17. Future Plans • Bibliographic Instruction Using Distance Education Technology • Applying Same Approach to Other Programs • Make Handouts Available Online and Include Links to Tutorials • Do Follow-Up Survey of Students and Faculty • Tracking Database and Tutorial Usage
