  1. THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF SURROGACY By – Rite Options

  2. • Surrogacy is the process of using a woman’s uterus for implanting as well as carrying an embryo that will ultimately bear a child in the future for the intended parents. • The woman who will carry the baby is called a surrogate. • The surrogacy process involves a medical procedure called IVF or In Vitro fertilization.

  3. TWO TYPES OF SURROGACY There are two popular variations of the surrogacy process. 1. Traditional Surrogacy 2. Gestational Surrogacy

  4. TRADITIONAL SURROGACY In traditional surrogacy, the role of the surrogate is of an egg donor as well as a surrogate. She is impregnated by way of a medical method termed as IUI, or intrauterine insemination. Under this process, the sperm from the biological father is placed inside the uterus of the surrogate to facilitate natural fertilization.

  5. GESTATIONAL SURROGACY In this process, the eggs of the surrogate will not be used. This means that there will not be a biological bond between the child and the surrogate. The embryo is created using the biological mother’s egg as well as the biological father’s sperm. The medical method involved in gestational surrogacy is termed as IVF.

  6. THREE STAGES OF GESTATIONAL SURROGACY

  7. 1. Egg Donation • Here, an egg retrieval process is done on the egg donor or the intended mother. 2. Fertilization • In the second stage, fertilization occurs when semen is placed with the egg in the laboratory. 3. Transfer • Once the embryo is fertilized, it is then moved inside the womb of the surrogate mother. This stage is also termed as the embryo transfer stage.

  8. THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCCESS IN IVF The probability of success in an IVF process depends on thefollowing factors: • The age of the biological mother whose eggs are retrieved • The health of the biological mother

  9. • All surrogates are screened thoroughly before they can be IMPORTANT used in either of the processes. THINGS TO • Only after the surrogate passes the health standards that they CONSIDER can move forward with the procedures involved.
