Values Directing IM4Q This session will discuss the values that direct IM4Q – • Everyday Lives • Self Determination • Valued Roles • Being Person Centered IM4Q Programs and monitors need to understand and embrace values that help people interviewed have a “good life.” Presenters will share the importance of such values in their own lives and in the lives of people who are interviewed.

IM4Q & Everyday Lives The purpose of Pennsylvania’s IM4Q is to collect information about, as well as to improve the quality of life of people with intellectualdisabilities who are served and supported within the ODP system ODP’s vision is that everyone has the opportunity to live an everyday life IM4Q was developed as the key data collection method to measure if a person has an everyday life

  5. How Does IM4Q Help Make an Everyday Life Possible? • Asks people what they want/need • Asks how lives can be made better • Allow families to provide input • Calls for a change when necessary • Measures quality • Provides job opportunities

  6. IM4Q & Self Determination Another purpose of IM4Q is to support the various principles of the Self Determination Initiative of Pa IM4Q helps people with disabilities and their families determine the course of their lives by listening & recording what it is people want to improve their lives

  7. Guiding Principles of Self Determination • CHOICE • RELATIONSHIP • CONTRIBUTION & COMMUNITY • ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES • CONTROL • DREAMS • DIGNITY & RESPECT • FISCAL CONSERVATISM • ATTITUDE

How Does IM4Q Help Make Self Determination Possible • Provides an opportunity for people interviewed to speak their mind and to make decisions about what they would like in their life • The survey instrument (EDE) asks questions geared toward the principles of self determination (e.g., Satisfaction; Dignity, Respect & Rights; Choice & Control; Relationships; Inclusion) • Person interviewed decides if considerations go into his/her ISP (IM4Q & ISP Connection) for discussion & action
