  4. Composing the Body The Topic Sentence (all should support thesis) • main point of the discussion (in paragraph) • Announces what the paragraph will be about • Controls the subject matter The entire discussion (examples, details, explanations) must support the topic sentence.

  5. Focusing Your Topic Sentence Unfocused- too many people treat animals badly Focused- the cosmetic industry often harms animals in unnecessary experiments designed to test products. Unfocused-Grades are an unfair pain in the neck Focused- A course grade based on 2 multiple choice exams doesn’t accurately measure a student’s knowledge of the subject.
