Malawi National Climate Change Programme (CCP), Formulation Phase OBJECTIVE: To develop an evidence-based strategic framework, comprehensive funded program for managing response to climate change in Malawi. OUTCOMES: • Strategic Framework, national Action programme endorsed and national capacities strengthened • Core information gaps filled • Adaptation and mitigation interventions designed and investment proposals formulated and funded

  11. CHALLENGES • 58 Malawi Institutions with Climate Change related activities, plus a variety of active donors • Diversity of Funding Mechanisms • Linkages / coordination with other partners • DAO is work in progress

OPPORTUNITIES • A coordinated strategic framework, founded on evidence based information, will greatly assist Malawi in responding and adapting to Climate Change threats • Coordinated action may take advantage of opportunities arising from national and international initiatives • Willingness by all parties to support in a coherent and coordinated way

  13. CONCLUSIONS • Multi-sectoral nature of Climate change impact requires coordination by a Central Ministry • Malawi collaboration provides an early indication of the UN’s role at the country level • UN reform and Delivering as One allow the UN to be more strategic and leverage join technical inputs
