  2. Introduction • In July of this year the Wi-Fi Alliance Regulatory Task Group of the Spectrum and Regulatory Committee undertook a project to create a document to better educate its membership about DFS • Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS), as specified by WRC-03 as a requirement in the 5250 – 5350 and 5470 – 5725 MHz bands enables RLANs to share these bands with radar • The mechanism has been successful when sharing the band with the specified radars • Recent test have shown that the DFS specification did not comprehend narrow pulse (0.5 – 1.0uS) or staggered PRF radars • Changes are in process in many regulatory domains • The document aims to foster understanding of the radars and the interference mitigation methods • The WFA Board of Directors approved the document in October, and approved its public release’ presented here to IEEE 802.18
