ANet interim assessments • Given to students in grades 3rd through 8th four times per year in English Language Arts and Mathematics. • Assessments aid teachers in making instructional decisions to meet the needs of students. • Designed to mirror the rigorous upcoming PARCC assessment, which will replace the NJASK.

  18. Electives • Students from grades 6-8 select elect a specialty to participate in for one 100 minutes block a week. • Students in grades 6-8 work in the elective they selected for 100 minutes weekly. • Elective choices are: Technology Club, Spanish Club, Gym, Instrumental Music and Chorus. • Students participate in showcases two times a year (Fall and Spring).

Sharks Athletics Girls Basketball • Undefeated in the 2013 regular season with a 10-0 record • Played in the championship game for the 2nd year in a row. • ShakiraEdwards lead the team in scoring averaging 19 points per game and played in the Newark Grammar School All-Star game. Boys Basketball • Boy’s and Girl’s Basketball teams both made it to the Playoffs. Girls played in the City Championship for the 2nd year in a row. Tyrese Jenkins and Shakira Edwards were both name to the City’s Elementary League all-star Teams. Girls were undefeated during the regular season (10-0). Boys were 7-3 during the regular season. Baseball • 2009 Roberto Clemente Little League Champions 13-14 year old division • 2011 Roberto Clemente Little League Champions 13-14 year old division

Sharks Athletics Co-Ed Track Team • Won first place district wide in the middle school and elementary track championship.  • Many students took for first, second a third place in  their individual races. Cheerleading • Supported basketball program at every game • Won 4th place in the 2012-2013 Elementary School championship • Individual students won awards • Tayaasia Vincent “Ms. Yell” • KianaIglesia “Ms. Jump” Soccer • 2013 was the Inaugural year • Looking forward to building our team

PerformingArts • Instruction in both vocal and instrumental music • Students have the opportunity to join • Chorus • Band • Orchestra • Jazz Band  • Partnerships with • New Jersey Symphony Orchestra • Jazz House Kids- Students in grades 6-8 can join the Jazz Band and work intensively each week with a teaching artist through Jazz House Kids. • NJSO- Students in grades 2-4 learn violin and perform at NJPAC

Visual Arts • Fosters an appreciation of artthrough hands on experiences. • Art students learn about the elements and principles of art through drawing, painting, and three-dimensional design.  • Art room features pottery wheels and a working kiln • Students have created several beautiful murals in our building, created their own movies, practiced for Arts High School Auditions, and worked on independent projects.

Community Partnerships • JOHN HOPKINS PROGRAM • College-Prep and summer programs beginning in 3rd grade • RUTGERS FUTURE SCHOLARS • High-achieving 7th grade students can experience university life, earn college credits, and get a head start on their post-secondary educations through Rutgers University’s Summer Scholars Program.

Community Partnerships • NJ LEEP • Summer Program engaging students interested in legal careers • GEAR UP- NJIT • 6th-8th grade students are able to participate in a pre-college program during the school year and the summer. • NJ SEEDS • Assists families in the application and scholarship process of private and Catholic schools.

  27. Community Partnerships • WIGHT FOUNDATION • Provides grants, based on family income, to attend boarding schools in the New England and Mid-Atlantic Regions.
