WGISS Report to Plenary • WGISS Report and Actions (15 min) • 2008 Accomplishments • Current and Future Challenges • Requested Commitments from CEOS members to further the objectives of WGISS Four Current Themes • Satellite Arm of GEO • Recommend what Project Milestones should be made into 2009 Actions, and carried to 2nd CEOS/GEO Actions Meeting for 2009 • Recommend what WGISS Capabilities might be added to GEO Plenary Demo in Bucharest • Recommendations for working actively with CEOS Constellations and GEO SBA Areas’ CEOS Leads • Recommendations for working actively with WGCV • Focus on Experience with/Need for Data Quality Information • Example of collaboration: Ensuring metadata contain all relevant content on data quality, using multiple instruments’ data looking at specific site. • Determine what Project outcomes relevant to Data Democracy purposes and Recommend to Plenary

Outcome of WGISS-25, Sanya • Request for more time in Subgroups for Technology Discussions and Planning • Three full days devoted to Subgroups • Reorganization of Work Units • Task Teams replaced by Interest Groups and/or Projects • Interest Groups are topical areas • Projects characterized by specific objectives, workplans, milestones

WGISS Current Focus • Provide satellite arm of GEO System of Systems • Innovative contributions that will persist, and can be reused • Work closely with and support CEOS Virtual Constellations (GEO DA-07-03) • High GEO interest in LSI Portal • Work closely with collaborate with CEOS Working Group on Calibration and Validation • WGISS Chair Maiden to attend WGCV next week • Land Product Validation Special Session on agenda. • Support the CEOS Plenary Chair’s Data Democracy initiative.

Plenary Charge to Subgroups, 1 WGISS Subgroups Charge • Focus on overall objective of WGISS: to facilitate data and information management and services for users and data providers • Recommendations coming from Outcomes on Interest Groups and Projects • Recommend Strategic Directions and New Work from Subgroup Technical Discussions, which could be Across Interest Groups Four Current Themes • Satellite Arm of GEO • Recommend what Project Milestones should be made into 2009 Actions, and carried to 2nd CEOS/GEO Actions Meeting for 2009 • Recommend what WGISS Capabilities might be added to GEO Plenary Demo in Bucharest • Recommendations for working actively with CEOS Constellations • Recommendations for working actively with WGCV • Example of collaboration: Ensuring metadata contain all relevant content on data quality, using multiple instruments’ data looking at specific site. • Determine what Project outcomes relevant to Data Democracy purposes and Recommend to Plenary

Plenary Charge to Subgroups, 2 • Continue Deliberations on Subgroups’ Content Reorg and Recommend any Evolutionary Steps • Has the division of work in Subgroups become blurred? • Is there a better categorization of work we could use? • Rename Technology and Services/Projects and Applications? • Organize gaps in WGISS technical expertise and needs for support from Agencies for Chair to Request at November Plenary • What expertise needed for Interest Groups to request CEOS agencies could send to WGISS-27? • Are specific agency resources (monetary, participation, data contributions, etc.) needed to be placed toward a WGISS Interest Group or Project? • All Recommendations to be included in Subgroups’ Reports to be Presented to WGISS Plenary Friday, September 26.
