(gain=10 or gain=200) • Analog Current Inputs (for 4~20mA sensors) • Differential PT100 inputs • Some indicative measurementsand related sensors are: • Wind Speed and Direction (Anemometers and Wind Vanes). • Temperature and Humidity (Thermometers, Hygrometers and Thermo-hygrometers) • Barometric Pressure (Barometers) • Solar Radiation (Pyranometers) • Water Depth and pH (Water Depth and pH sensors) • Active Energy (Single phase and 3-phase) • AC and DC Voltage and Current (AC and DC Current and Voltage meters) …and many more

  5. 4. COMMUNICATION METHODS • Communication with Stylitis-50 can be achieved in various ways • The datalogger can be used: • On its own, for local and remote (GSM/GPRS) operation • With a serial-to-Ethernet adaptor, connected to its serial port, for LAN/ internet operation • With other types of modems (which do not require a SIM card), connected to its serial port • The communication methods are presented more analytically in the next chapters

  6. 5. LOCAL AND ETHERNET OPERATION • Locally RS-232 • Via Ethernet (local network or the internet) RS-232 (An ADSL connection is required only for connections to the internet) Stylitis-50 Serial-to-Ethernet LAN/ internet ADSL Router Stylitis-50

  7. 6. GSM/GPRS OPERATION GSM Network • Via a GSM data call RS-232 • Via GPRS, using a cheap Dynamic IP SIM Card (via DiamesonServer) Virtual COM (Diameson Gateway is Symmetron’ssoftware server connecting all dynamic IP SIM devices) 3. Via GPRS, using a static IP SIM Card Virtual COM GSM modem Stylitis-50 GPRS Network Diameson Gateway Internet Stylitis-50 GPRS Network Internet Stylitis-50

  8. 7. REMOTE OPERATION WITHOUT A SIM CARD • Via Satellite RS-232 RS-232 • Via RF Modems. RS-232 RS-232 (Access one or more loggers without a SIM card within a limited distance-usually a few km) Iridium modem Iridium modem Stylitis-50 Radio Modem Radio Modem Stylitis-50

  9. 8. STYLITIS EXPLORER SOFTWARE Stylitis Explorer is Stylitis-50’s free operating software. Via Stylitis Explorer you can: • Create Site folders and Connections. Each datalogger has its unique folder, while multiple (different types of) connections can be created for the logger. The different connection types correspond to the communication methods, discussed before. • Modify its Setup: Channel parameters, recording interval, GPRS settings, etc. • Specifically, channel parameters can be set in 3 ways: manually via a virtual keyboard (same buttons and appearance as the real one), manually via a more user friendly interface (Easy Setup) or automatically (via Easy Setup again), by selecting a specific sensor from Stylitis Explorer’s sensor library • View the logger’s status: Instant parameters, such as the current file, the recording time remaining, etc. • View the instant channel values. • Enable/ disable data acquisition to create data files, stored in the removable Compact Flash card (up to 2 GB). Files are not stored in the 512KB internal memory (buffer) when acquisition is disabled. • Download data files, which are stored in the Compact Flash card, or the current file of the buffer, in compressed form. They are stored and decompressed automatically in the site folder, to be viewed via a text editor. From the Compact Flash you can download: the recent file (a new file begins), the card’s directory (to speculate the files’ size, number, start and end date), or a previous file. • Adjust the built-in Sym-o-net modem settings, for GSM/GPRS connections and encrypted data emails. • View an Online plot of the channel values. All samples are plotted (every second). • Manage the downloaded data files offline. • For single data files: view the channels’ plot and statistics, apply new Slope and Offset values in retrospect • For a folder’s files: check the integrity of the files (check for missing or duplicate records or if the interval is the same for all files) and view the data availability within the months and years.

  11. 10. AUTOCONNECT SOFTWARE • As stated before, data files can be downloaded manually, via Stylitis Explorer, via any connection. • However, data download, along with other actions as well, can be preformed automatically, in a regular basis, via the additional free software AutoConnect. • The datalogger can perform a different action each weekday: • Download Data: The current data file, either from the buffer or from theCompact Flash. There is an option to clear the buffer in the end or not. • Download Status: Instant parameters, such as the current file, the recording time remaining, etc. • Download Display. Get the instant channel values. • Update Captum. Captum is a free service to present real-time and historical data of Symmetron data loggers on the World Wide Web. Captum Plot • The selected action of a weekday can be performed once a day at a specific selected time, or infinite connections can be made that weekday every as many minutes as you wish. • Besides editing the auto connections (like in Stylitis Explorer) via AutoConnect’sinterface, you can: • View a list of all your automatic connections and execute one or more manually. • Check each connection’s latest status, ie if it succeeded, or failed and why. • View the date and time of last connection and last successful download for each one.
