  2. Columbus’s Lifespan • Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy in 1451. • In 1505 Columbus became ill and died in Seville.

  3. Columbus sets sail for the new world! • On August 3, 1492 Columbus set sail from Palos, Spain in search for a water route to India. • Three months later, Columbus and his crew spotted the Caribbean Islands.

  4. Voyages • From 1492-1504, Columbus had made 4 voyages. • On his second trip, he sailed with 17 ships to find gold and capture “Indians” as slaves. • On his Third expedition, Columbus sailed to Trinidad and Venezuela. • On his final journey, he sailed to Mexico, Honduras, Panama, and Santiago (Jamaica).

  5. Influences on the world • Columbus’s discoveries sparked interest in European explorers. • People began to explore in search of new land.
