  2. PREFERIR • Here we will learn the verb PREFERIR, which means “to prefer.” • But before we do, let’s look at 2 other verbs like PREFERIR.

  3. QUERER and PENSAR • Querer means… • “to want” • Pensar means… • “to plan” or “to think”

  4. QUERER and PENSAR • Querer and Pensar are “stem-changing” verbs. • They are “e > ie” stem-changing verbs.

  5. QUERER and PENSAR • The stem of “querer” is… • “quer” • The stem of “pensar” is… • “pens” • What changes? “quier” “piens”

  6. QUERER and PENSAR • Both verbs follow regular “-er and -ar” endings. • o, as, a, amos, áis, an • e, es, e, emos, éis, en

  7. QUERER and PENSAR • All forms change except the nosotros and vosotros forms. Let’s see!

  8. yo quiero tú quieres él ella quiere Ud. nos. queremos (NO CHANGE) vosotros queréis ellos ellas quieren Uds. QUERER

  9. yo pienso tú piensas él ella piensa Ud. nos. pensamos (NO CHANGE) vosotros pensáis ellos ellas piensan Uds. PENSAR

  10. QUERER and PENSAR • When forms of QUERER and PENSAR are followed by another verb, the second verb is always in the infinitive.

  11. QUERER and PENSAR • Quieres estudiar conmigo? • No, pienso ver la tele.

  12. PREFERIR • Preferir is conjugated the same way as Querer and Pensar, however it is an “-ir” verb. • Use the endings “o, es, e, imos, ís, en”

  13. PREFERIR • In PREFERIR, it’s the second “E” that changes from e > ie. • PREFERIR

  14. yo prefiero tú prefieres él ella prefiere Ud. nos. preferimos (NO CHANGE) vosotros preferís ellos ellas prefieren Uds. PREFERIR
