Pensar, Querer, and Preferir


PREFERIR

  • Here we will learn the verb PREFERIR, which means “to prefer.”

  • But before we do, let’s look at 2 other verbs like PREFERIR.


QUERER and PENSAR

  • Querer means…

  • “to want”

  • Pensar means…

  • “to plan” or “to think”


QUERER and PENSAR

  • Querer and Pensar are “stem-changing” verbs.

  • They are “e > ie” stem-changing verbs.


QUERER and PENSAR

  • The stem of “querer” is…

  • “quer”

  • The stem of “pensar” is…

  • “pens”

  • What changes?

“quier”

“piens”


QUERER and PENSAR

  • Both verbs follow regular “-er and -ar” endings.

  • o, as, a, amos, áis, an

  • e, es, e, emos, éis, en


QUERER and PENSAR

  • All forms change except the nosotros and vosotros forms.

QUERER and PENSAR

  • When forms of QUERER and PENSAR are followed by another verb, the second verb is always in the infinitive.


QUERER and PENSAR

  • Quieres estudiar conmigo?

  • No, pienso ver la tele.


PREFERIR

  • Preferir is conjugated the same way as Querer and Pensar, however it is an “-ir” verb.

  • Use the endings “o, es, e, imos, ís, en”


PREFERIR

  • In PREFERIR, it’s the second “E” that changes from e > ie.

  • PREFERIR
