CFP Program Overview

  • The Climate Friendly Parks (CFP) Program, a collaboration of the National Park Service and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, provides national parks with management tools and resources to address climate change.
  • Program approach
      • Develop understanding of CC impacts.
      • Measure GHG emissions.
      • Develop strategies to mitigate emissions and adapt to impacts (CC Action Plan).
      • Share successes and educate the public about what they can do in their own lives
slide4

Program Importance

  • National Parks are in a unique position to educate the public and provide environmental leadership.
    • NPS is responsible for preserving

and protecting our nation’s

natural resources

    • Large visitor population with

interest in environmental issues and preservation of natural resources

    • Educating visitors and park staff about the effects of climate change on the country’s natural wonders can energize the public to take action

CLIP Tool: Module 2

  • Import Emission Inventory Results
    • View and compare emission results and activity data by sector (Energy, Transportation, Waste, Other)
  • Set emission reduction goals
  • Use calculators and other features to plan mitigation actions and quantify emission reductions
  • Create an Action Plan

CFP Program GHG Inventories

GHG Emissions (MTCE)

slide13
An on-line program that gives visitors the information they need to reduce their carbon emissions and thereby help to reduce climate change impacts on America’s national parks.
      • Helps participants make a plan to reduce their personal GHG emissions.
      • Promotes climate friendly actions at the household level.
      • Quantitatively benchmarks the emissions reductions achieved by individual and by each park.
      • Inspires individuals to join in collaborative action to reach common goals.
