  3. Gifted Parent Meeting • Please make sure you have your child’s GEP in hand. • Introductions • What it means to be gifted (characteristics) • Other handouts • Statewide acceptance/eligibility • Moving from enrichment to gifted model

  4. Gifted Parent Meeting Curriculum: Students will participate in a variety of • higher-order thinking skills activities • extended units of study (classwide) • interest-based experiences (products) • guest speakers

  5. Gifted Parent Meeting • Classwork • Homework • Special Assignments from gifted teacher – infrequent but possible

  6. Gifted Parent Meeting What to expect – Students in 4 - 6 grade – classes based on interest selection or by homeroom. Students are NOT REQUIRED TO MAKE UP WORK missed during class. Recommend that students develop a method for getting notes, handouts, assignments, etc. Please let your gifted specialist know if your child is experiencing issues at any time!

Gifted Parent Meeting • Discuss GEP • Madison City students receive the same number of service hours system-wide, according to grade level • Third and fourth graders meet for one hour/week • Fifth and sixth graders meet for 90 minutes/week • Sixth graders have an additional 45 minute flex time built into their schedules this year, to be used individually as needed

  8. Gifted Parent Meeting Gifted Specialists also provide consultative services for K - 6 teachers, and conduct Second Grade Child Find in conjunction with second grade teachers

  11. Gifted Parent Meeting Paperwork – • Rights for gifted students and GEP to keep for your records • GEP with your child’s name in blue needs to be signed and returned to homeroom folder on table. • If I didn’t email you a reminder that means I still need it.
