  1. Friday, April 15th: “A” Day Agenda • Section 14.3 Quiz • Check lab write-ups • Lab discussion • Conduct lab: “Solubility Product Constant” • Lab will be due next class period

  2. Section 14.3 Quiz“Equilibrium Systems and Stress” • You may use your notes and your book to complete this quiz on your own….

  3. Lab Discussion • In this lab, you will: • Prepare a saturated solution of NaCl. • Calculate the molarity of each ion in the solution. • Write an equilibrium expression and calculate the Ksp of NaCl. (?) • Demonstrate the effect of the addition of a common ion to the saturated NaCl solution. • Calculate the mass of NaCl necessary to fill the vat with 4,000 L of saturated solution.

  4. Safety Guidelines • As always, safety glasses and lab apron are required. • You will be using bunsen burners, so long hair must be tied back. • Do not heat broken or chipped glassware and handle hot glassware carefully! • Be careful heating the evaporating dish so that the NaCl does not spatter out. You may want to use a watch glass to cover the dish (make sure you get the mass of the watch glass too).

  5. Safety Guidelines • Make sure the evaporating dish is cool before putting it on the balance, it may damage the balance. • All solutions can be safely washed down the drain with plenty of water. • Be careful and have fun!
