  3. Local Strategy Documents Edinburgh Local Policing Plans 2017-2020 • Children and young people enjoy their childhood and fulfil their potential. • Along with partner agencies, work together in an effort to jointly reduce the causes of antisocial behaviour in our communities. EADP Alcohol and Drug Partnership • Improve prevention and early intervention for children who have developed alcohol issues.

  4. NHS Health (Scotland) • Young people want information that supports them in making their own choices and to be able to access support if or when they need it. There should also be a focus on building personal skills that help young people to make choices to minimise unwanted risks, build resilience and strengthen other protective factors for wellbeing. National Mandatory Licensing Conditions • preventing public nuisance, protecting and improving public health, and protecting children from harm.

  5. Changing Scotland’s Relationship with alcohol. Alcohol Concern 2017 • Reduce the exposure of children and young people to alcohol marketing or to limit its appeal. • Early interventions help to identify vulnerable children at a younger age which can improve their life chances and choices.

  6. CAP Vision Statement “To shape a society in which communities work in partnership to ensure that children do not drink alcohol and develop responsible attitudes to drinking as they become adults.”

  7. “This is the new way of doing business, it’s the way forward and it’s not going to change. This is about the long term health of our children.” Mark Hopkins, Assistant Chief Constable, Cambridgeshire Constabulary

  8. …….Whether it be educating retailers through free training opportunities; providing independent businesses with materials outlining licensing laws; gifting educational resources which are used in our high schools and youth centres; or linking local charities to funding opportunities, the benefits of the CAP within the North East are meaningful and impactive. CAPs focus on the following issues: • Underage sales • Proxy sales • Proof of age schemes – Challenge 25 • Underage drinking • Underage alcohol related anti-social behaviour • Underage alcohol related littering • Wider influences on young people e.g Street drinking/CSE/DV/Legal highs/Energy drinks

  16. South West Edinburgh CAPAction Plan

  17. Working together we have forged strong partnerships, from schools to independent retailers. We have brought about a change in attitude, amongst young people, towards alcohol. I am pleased to report an 80%+ reduction in seized alcohol along with a reduction in alcohol related disorder. This change has created a safer stronger community for all to live, work and play within.” Sergeant Mark Pickavance, Portobello Police Station, Edinburgh

  18. “Our local CAP has seen significant results in its short time: there’s been a 17% reduction in alcohol related anti-social behaviour in just 2 years. I was impressed by the change they are reporting in their peer group. It’s not about not drinking at all, but being able to talk openly about alcohol and make informed decisions. CAP provides a great example of how agencies can work together, pooling their resources, ideas and knowledge to make positive, identifiable changes in our local community ”Tommy Sheppard, MP for East Edinburgh (2016)
