  2. Who has the POWER? • YOU DO! • Your unique thoughts, ideas and energy give you the POWER! • Use that POWER to get more from your life! • Your POWER can lead you to new skills and special accomplishments!

Power of one offers the opportunity to---- • Examine issues in depth • Work alone at your own pace • Tackle personal projects • Explore a special interest • Learn to set goals and make decisions • Develop leadership skills • Expand on knowledge and skills learned in FACS • Receive recognition for your efforts

  4. Power of one basics • Make your dreams come true with Power of One. It’s as easy as----- • 1. choose a personal concern • 2. set a goal • 3. plan and carry out steps to meet your goal

  5. Who can participate? • Any State and Nationally affiliated member can take part in Power of One • In other words-if you have paid your dues

  6. What is a Power of One Project? An individual activity you create to reach a personal goal. Projects must involve in-depth effort.

  7. Two level of Power of One • Level one-for less experienced members • Level two-for more experienced members • Any member is allowed to choose either level.

  8. How much time do I have to spend? • You have no time level after you complete the 1st power of one. • Your first deadline for this power of one is Friday, April 22. We will work on them for the rest of the week this week, then on the last day of the week thereafter.

  9. Power of One has five units • A better you-improve on a personal trait • Family Ties-get along better with family members • Working on working-explore and prepare for careers • Take the lead-develop leadership qualities • Speak out for FCCLA-tell others about the organization

  10. How do I do Power of One? • Identify a personal goal • Choose a participation level • Plan a project using the five step planning process • Meet with your advisor • Complete your project • Submit your project to your advisor • Get recognition

  11. What recognition? • Level one projects-you get a ribbon • Level two projects-you get a pin • Complete all five units-get a t-shirt form local FCCLA, get recognized at our regional banquet, get your name in TEEN Times, also you get national recognition at the summer conference and state conference.

  12. Power of one steps • Identify concerns • Set a goal-write it down • Form a plan • Act • Follow up

  13. A Better You • Sample project ideas • Losing or gaining weight • Learning a new skill or hobby • Saving money • Improving grades or study habits • Organizing room, locker etc • Being more responsible

  14. Family Ties/Sample projects • Caring for your own space and clothes • Keeping up with household responsibilities • Spending time with family/grandparent • Helping with family meal time • Taking on more household responsibility

  15. Working on Working/Sample projects • Researching jobs for teens • Creating a resume • Job shadowing • Planning a high school course schedule • Researching colleges • Learning how to apply for jobs

  16. Take the lead/Project ideas • Volunteering • Completing a star event • Running for chapter office • Recruiting FCCLA members • Teaching children • Leading a chapter project

  17. Speak out for FCCLA/sample projects • Creating a PowerPoint demo about FCCLA • Organizing FCCLA week • Explaining FCCLA to future potential members • Publishing a chapter project
