  4. VCCCV Pattern • In words with VCCCV pattern, two of the consonants will usually be a consonant cluster or digraph • When breaking VCCCV words into syllables, the consonants in the cluster stay together. • Resolve the conflict

  5. Find the VCCCV pattern and divide into syllables! • dolphin • hamster • anthem • merchant • partner

  6. Synonyms • Synonyms are words that mean almost the same thing. All my answers were right. Right can mean “the direction opposite of left” or “correct” Write 4 sentences using synonyms.

  22. Making Generalizations • A generalization is a broad statement that is true about most people or things in a group most of the time. • Readers use story details and their own experiences to make a generalization. Practice Book pg. 224

  23. Drawing ConclusionsTE 413D • An author doesn’t always explain everything directly. Sometimes the reader has to put together several story details or clues to draw conclusions. • Look at reading book pg. 308

  24. VCV Pattern • Some words with VCV pattern are divided before the consonant, while others are divided after the consonant • An open syllable ends in a vowel and has a long vowel sound. • A closed syllable ends with a consonant and has a short vowel sound. • token

  26. Contractions • A contraction is a shortened form of two words. • The apostrophe in a contraction stands for the missing letter or letters.

  27. Antonyms • Antonyms are words that have opposite meanings. • Antonyms are used to help readers see differences. Zoe’s hair was short, but Yazmin’s was long. • Do practice book pg. 226
