  4. Universal Account Number • The Requirement : • Dormant PF Accounts • Huge unclaimed amounts – Estimated Rs.22363 Crores as on 31-03-2012, • Rs.300 Crores added every year, • Loss of administrative fees for EPFO (as employers do not pay Admin charges on exit employees)

  5. Universal Account Number • Not reaching the needy • EPFO is the only “Social Security Scheme” (Partial) in India • Members need to be empowered with • Expectation is UAN would reduce withdrawals on exit & instead opt for transfer ( Currently 27% of Members withdraw instead of transfer )

Universal Account Number • UAN is a new facility, hence no requirement to modify the EPFO Act • Introduced thru a circular R-1/C-DAC/2014 dated 21st July 2014 • Employers (Establishments) receive email communication thru respective RPFC’s of their region to extend support & assist implementation of UAN • Changes / Modifications done to accommodate and make UAN Mandatory in the future • OTCP • Employer E-Sewa • UAN Member Portal, etc.
