  1. Planning Geomagnetic Disturbance Task Force (PGDTF) Update to ROS September 05, 2019 Aster Amahatsion 2019 PGDTF Chair

  2. PGDTF Meeting • Business meeting was held onAugust 13th ,2019 • Discussed Federal and State activities regarding GMD • There was industry webinar by the NERC Standard Drafting Team on the modification of TPL-007-3 standard. • EPRI conducted a workshop on August 13, 2019 in Chicago Illinois and presented on the status of technical reports and tools for GMD vulnerability assessment. • NERC Geomagnetic Task Force met on August 14, 2019 in Chicago Illinois and presented on topics in GMD research. • Discussed removal of the Gray Boxing of the GMD related sections from Planning Guide due to PGRR057 and PGRR070. • GIC 2022 SSWG summer peak/min case updates • ERCOT is working on data issues including incorrect station coordinates, missing Ground Grid Resistance and buses not assigned to a substation. ERCOT is reaching to TSPs and REs to update the station coordinates and PGDTF agreed to use default values for GGRs when the actual value is not available. 09/05/2019 ROS Meeting

  3. PGDTF Meeting • Discussed summary of GIC flow in 2022 GIC Cases • For the supplemental GIC flow, ERCOT tested the two options suggested by the NERC GMD Planning Guide. They are applying the supplemental geoelectric field of 12 V/km scaled by local β and α, for the whole ERCOT footprint and the moving box option where 12 V/km is applied to a box size of 100 km by 500 km and 8 V/km out side of the box both scaled by local β and α. The maximum effective GIC flows were very similar for the two options and ERCOT will apply the 12 V/km to the whole ERCOT footprint. • PTI released new PSSE V34.6 and the GIC flows differed significantly from the previous PSSE V34.5.1. ERCOT has run additional GIC analysis with Power World and found that the results are more comparable with results from PSSE V34.5.1 and will use PSSE V34.5.1. • Discussed on commenting on NERC Modifications to TPL-007-3 standard • The comment period for TPL-007-4 is open through 8 p.m. Eastern, September 9, 2019. ERCOT, TSPs and REs will submit comments separately. Next PGDTF meeting: September 12 at the Met Center (WebEx available) 09/05/2019 ROS Meeting
