  1. The Vital Nursing Skills You’ll Need to Grow a Healthy Career By XYZ, 11th November 2018 “What should a nurse possess?”- this answer can be dealt better if we look back at the era of Crimean warfare where the ‘lady with the lamp’ with her utmost devotion and stoicism had served so many severely wounded English soldier. Florence Nightingale, popularly known as ‘the lady with the lamp’ is still an admiration to many young nurses. The way she put her effort, ambition and patience in nursing, depicts the ways with which a nurse should heal her patients. Nursing can be a great profession and undoubtedly a nurse has to be more responsible than a doctor. The reason behind this is an obvious fact- a doctor treats a disease, he has both the chances of lose and win but, a nurse treats a person and if she does that the right way, she will win, irrespective of the outcome. Maintaining a positive approach with all the patients is the main challenge in this profession. Now, one can obviously opt for getting enrolled in BSC courses in top nursing colleges in India and to earn a degree from there. There are plenty of top nursing colleges in Punjab with very good ratings and recognition. Even, one can find several BSC nursing colleges in Chandigarh only. These BSC nursing colleges in Punjab do provide quality training and education to the persons who want to pursue nursing as their career. One of the remarkable examples in this regard include Rattan Group of Institutions or RGI which is located at Mohali in Punjab. It is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Science and has exemplary ratings due to their remarkable faculties and infrastructure. But, only by getting admitted to these colleges and with these facilities, one cannot dream to be a passionate nurse

  2. rather, it can be said that nursing skills are the qualities which one should be aware of before choosing nursing as their career. This is the reason why this blog is going to be so important to you for, I am going to discuss the most important attributes of an efficient nurse. It will provide a brief yet concise information regarding the assets that can make you a ‘SUCCESSFUL’ nurse. Effective communication skills A nurse has to heal a patient mentally to a great extent in comparison to his physical condition. In most of the severe cases, it is seen that patients are getting terrified of their critical conditions and are losing hope to live longer. In this condition, only medications will not help to revive a patient. Thus, a nurse acts as a therapist in this position. The foremost important skill for a nurse is outstanding communication potentials.

  3. There are different patients of a single nurse and thus, ways to interact with them also varies from person to person and also as per their physical and mental state. Thus, nursing communication can be either verbal or non-verbal. Communication has to be so effective and powerful that it motivates a patient to get better and to stay happy by accepting all the health criticalities. An efficient nurse always remains a good listener and her approach remains polite with every single patient. In many cases, it is seen that these powerful nursing communications have developed nurse-patient relationship so well that a patient is able to get back his confidence and has desired to live better. Compassion and Kindness If a person has these qualities naturally then, it can be greatly benefitting in her nursing career. These two aspects are ardent for treating every single patient with care. Like I said before, a nurse has to interact with different patients so, it is quite obvious that she has to be non-judgemental, really calmed and sympathetic. This will enable patients to be open minded with their nurses. An efficient nurse should be equally proficient in providing both emotional and mental support to her patients. I would like to mention here about the complex situations that a nurse faces at this point. A

  4. nurse while dealing with several patients every single day and while listening to their emotions, she can get herself emotionally attached with few of them. It can also happen that while listening continuously to the sufferings of the patients, she can become agitated sometimes or, her own emotional experiences can struck up her mind. All these are not unusual. But, maintaining the professional etiquette in nursing is a quality that one achieves with her experience and due to this, she is admired by others. This is the reason why remaining calm headed in every single situation remains an unavoidable challenge to a nurse. Patience and Devotion These attributes are very much related to the above skills mentioned. Without dedication a nurse cannot be successful. Dedication makes the patience an obvious quality that a nurse must possess. Ample patience helps a nurse to overcome stressful situations and to deal every single patient with commitment and care. This is another feature that makes this clear that nursing career is not for all and one cannot be a perfect nurse just by getting admitted to top nursing colleges in Punjab. One must seriously think of the level of dedication that is mandatory in this career.

  5. A nurse while remaining in her duty has to keep apart her own personal and familiar problems so that these does not burdened up her mind. This is definitely not an easy task and the level of devotion has to be really high if one really wants to become a successful and an efficient nurse. Analysing the aspects of this career will help a person from the very beginning to choose nursing as their profession. Critical thinking This is another important quality of a nurse. Simultaneously with the devotion and patience, a nurse must possess sufficient clinical knowledge so that she can handle different critical situations bravely and tactically. Practical experiences make a nurse perfect and helps her gaining more knowledge which she can apply in her future regarding treating patients. A doctor diagnoses and gives medication but it is a nurse who stays by a patient most of the time.

  6. Often critical situations of a patientcan arise when a doctor is not around and a nurse has to think immediately for a preliminary measurement so that the patient can be safe. This is called critical thinking and this has to be a logical process so that the valuable time is utilised in a positive manner to make the patient survive on that go. The more a young nurse will get the guidance of a proficient nursing leader, the better she can have impactful experiences regarding critical thinking which can further boost her competence and career. Effective decision making and Punctuality Every single minute is vital for a patient who is in critical condition and to treat him well, a nurse must use this precious time in an efficient manner. There is nothing like remaining casual in this profession as no gap is to be there when patients’ care is the sole concern. Starting from patients’ consultations, laboratory tests, giving medicine to the patients, taking instant decisions, administrative tasks to patients’ follow up calls- all these have to be managed on a packed schedule. Shift changes and rotations are common in nursing profession. A nurse must be on time to take care of her patients so that their needs are met. A slight delay can incur various complexities and can hamper the discipline in the workplace. Fulfilling responsibilities in a

  7. timely and efficient manner also helps a nurse to make quick yet effective decisions and avoid unnecessary circumstances. It also helps to develop the ‘nurse-patient relationship. With all these qualities a nurse is surely going to be successful in her profession and simultaneously she can inspire other nurses also. Florence Nightingale had always called her profession as one of the ‘finest’ arts and really, it is so. Starting from the approach of a nurse to remaining punctual all the time, definitely involves lots of challenges in this profession. Endurance and perseverance becomes the key to success in this dedicated service. If one seriously wants to get involved in this devoted work, she must have a strong vision and mission regarding serving people without thinking much about personal benefit. Her aim must be to put smiles on the patients’ faces irrespective of their state of condition and making them belief that they are strong enough to overcome their hard situation and they have the right to live.
