  1. Clubs of Four The Rotary Club of Haliburton Takes a Trip

  2. Brought to You by the Number 4 And the Letters R and I

  3. The Year is 2005, Our Trip Begins • Rotarians around the world gather in Chicago to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Rotary • Rotarians in Haliburton look for something to help them focus on the history of Rotary

  4. Still 2005, But Looking Back • We considered (briefly) investing in a time machine to visit 1944, the year our club was constituted • We wanted to know what brought our first 16 members to the club

  5. Further Back to Chicago Again • If we could go back to 1944, why not go back to Chicago in 1905? • What brought Paul, Gus, Hiram and Silvester together? • How did they get things done with only 4 club members? • What made it fun for them?

  6. Consider the Many 4’s in Our Lives

  7. And Those in Haliburton’s Past 1944 16 members

  8. And Other Important Rotary 4’s

  9. Step 1 – Get Ready For the Trip • Help your members experience the fun of 4 • Rearrange your member list into groups of 4 • Include differences in each club of 4 • Publish the list • The only rule is there are no rules • What can you expect at this point?

  10. Immediate Benefits • New members are adopted by a Club of 4 and this is their safety net during orientation • Members with low attendance can be encouraged or helped by their club to attend • Volunteers come in sets of 4 • Socializing can be easily arranged • New ideas will be generated

  11. Step 2 – Let Good Things Happen • Let Clubs of 4 take responsibility for small projects or part of a large project • Let Clubs of 4 bring potential new members to meetings • Let Clubs of 4 do small promotional events in the community • Let Clubs of 4 propose new projects to the members

  12. The ROI is Huge… • Getting project volunteers can be easier • Recruiting members can be easier • The face of Rotary becomes more visible in your community • Think about a new idea that you could bring to your club with the support of 3 other members

  13. Step 3 – Review Progress • After 1 year evaluate which groups are working well and why • Give groups a chance to remain intact or be mixed again • Talk openly about your successes

  14. Step 4 – Open the Safe • Give each Club of 4 a portion of your budget to control • Available funds will depend on the size and certainty of your budget • Length of availability may vary depending on your cash flow • Consider “use it or lose it” approach • Can you think of a reason it won’t work in your club?

  15. Some of our Club of 4 Initiatives • Caboose renovations • Honduras clinic project support • Start-up supplies for sponsored Interact Club • Furnishings for school in India • Club A/V equipment • Gingerbread house contest • Christmas gift bags • Ontario Camp for Deaf • Youth outreach centre recreational equipment • School visiting musical artist • Rotary Carnival fireworks
