  2. Homework Questions

  3. Dart Throw Review • Students will be split up into groups of 4-5. • Each student will be assigned a letter A-E. • All students are responsible for backing up their answers on their own sheet of paper. • When a letter is called, that group member must present their work to a teacher. • If the student is correct and has shown all work, then they will put a tally mark next to their team name. • If the student is incorrect, they will no receive a tally mark and the group must correct their work. • After a few rounds of questions, students will throw darts on the board for points.

  4. Dart Throw Scoring Board • -20 points if the dart does not land inside the square or if it falls on the ground • No points if the dart lands in the white region 100 50 30 70 100 50 30 30 20 -20 - 70 20 10 20 20 10 30 20 50 100 50 30 70 10 50 -20 10 100 30 10 30 -20 -10 20 20 20 70 50 100 100 50

  5. Question 1 Find the following probability Suppose a red die and a white die are rolled. What is the probability that the sum of the numbers showing on the die is equal to 5? P(5) = 4/36 = 1/9 = 11.1%

  6. Question 2 Find the following probability Suppose a card is drawn from a standard deck of playing cards. What is the probability that the card is a face card? P(face card) = 12/52 = 3/13 = 23.1%

  7. Question 3 Find the following probability Suppose a card is drawn from a standard deck of playing cards. What is the probability that it is a black card or a 5? P(black card or 5) = 28/52 = 7/13 = 53.8%

  9. Question 4 Find the following probability The probability that an OHS student passes Pre-Calculus is .73. In a class of 27 students, what is the probability that at least one student fails. P(at least one fails) = 99.9%

  10. Question 5 Find the following probability You place notecards with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 in a hat. You plan to reach into the hat six times and pull out a notecard each time. What is the probability you pull out the cards in numerical order? Bonus: What is the probability of the complement? P(numerical order) = 0.14% P(complement) = 99.9%

  11. Question 6 Construct a tree diagram You flip a coin three times.

  13. Question 7 Construct a tree diagram and solve From a box containing 3 red balls and 5 green balls, 2 balls are randomly picked, one after the other and without replacement. Find the probability that one ball is red and the other is green. P(Red then Green) = 15/28 = 53.6%

  14. Question 8 Find the following probability Suppose a fair 11-sided die is rolled. What is the probability of rolling a 2 given that the first roll was a 2? P(2|2) = 0.83%

  15. Question 9 Find the following probability A royal flush is when you have a 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace from one suit of cards. If you were to draw 5 cards from a standard deck of cards, what is the probability of you drawing a royal diamond flush on your first 5 draws? P(royal diamond flush) = 0.0000000032 = 0.00%

  16. Question 10 Find the following probability The Duggars are a famous family with 19 children. How likely would it have been for the Duggars to have exactly 13 boys? P(13 boys) = 5.2%
