  2. Things to know • First imperial dynasty of China • Dynasty was formed after conquest of six of states by the state of Qin • First time China was unified as one • Qin Shi Huang expected his dynasty to last very long • It only ended up lasting from 221 B.C.E to 206 B.C.E

  3. Accomplishments • Increased trade • Improved agriculture • Military protection • Since China was one unified country now the government had control of large masses of people giving it a much larger workforce that they used for ambitious building projects (see next few slides)

  4. Great Wall of China • Qin Shi Huang connected already existing walls together to help protect China from outside Barbarians and to keep the Chinese in • No one knows the exact length of Qin’s part of the wall but it stretched great distances • Workers had to build the wall with little food, water, and rest • Workers also had to carry heavy material and work through harsh weather conditions

  5. Great Wall (continued) • Millions if not a billion people died while working on the wall because of Qin’s mercilessness • Dead workers were buried along and possibly inside of the wall Qin Shi Huang’s part of the wall

  6. Qin’s Tomb -After he was satisfied with with the wall Qin started on his tomb for his next building project -Instead of burying his real army with him Qin created his famous clay Terracotta warriors to be placed in his tomb

  7. Qin’s Tomb (continued) • There is also believed to be streams of Mercury in his tomb Part of a whole clay army that Qin Shi Buried in his tomb -------------

  8. Madness Although Qin got a lot accomplished as empire not very many people like him because of his cruelty. Here’s a list of many crazy things that he did. -buried people alive -burnt anything with history of life before his empire -worked citizens to death on building projects (list continues)

  9. Madness -sent people on long journeys to find things that would cause immortal life -drank mercury thinking that it would make him immortal (which many believes lead to his death) -murdered his parents and siblings after his mom tried to assassinate him

  10. The End Although he was insane and cold hearted people will always remember Qin Shi Huang for his remarkable accomplishments.
