  1. TWENfor IT Departments 2002

  2. Using TWEN, your professors can: • Easily create web extensions of their classrooms • Create a personalized course home page • Post course materials, class announcements, and course calendars • Host online discussions using the TWEN forum areas • Create online interactive quizzes that provide instant feedback to the students • Link to Westlaw content and features by merely typing in a citation • Create an open channel of communication for their classes

  3. Reasons to Use TWEN: • No setup/installation work by IT department to run TWEN -- virtually all server side with some client side javascript. No applets, no configuring firewalls for special features. • The hardware/software is on our end, so there are no (extra) hardware expenses. • Upgrades stay within the above guidelines (no setup or installation, no IT support, primarily server side). • Data lives on our servers, so there are no storage costs or concerns. • TWEN is written to work on both Macintoshes and a NN4.7x minimum browser environment, as well as traditional PCs with high end IE and NN browsers.

  4. What people are saying about TWEN… At Seattle University, we have more than 70 TWEN courses set up. Our IT department could never manage that number of courses without a significant increase in staff size and a significant commitment to new hardware and software. In addition to the cost savings, the ease of use and acceptance of TWEN across the board by our faculty has made implementation a breeze. ~ Steve Burnett, Associate Dean for Information Services and Professor of Law at Seattle University

  5. What people are saying about TWEN… TWEN gives even the least computer-savvy faculty member all the bells and whistles needed to run a course, and lets the IT manager focus on new content. ~Ted Brink Professor and Director of the Library at Michigan State University Detroit College of Law

  6. What people are saying about TWEN… TWEN has provided me with a user friendly format for communicating with my students outside of the classroom. Whether through discussion groups or posting of "items in the news," I am now able to prompt and respond to student inquiries whenever they arise. Through the use of links and posted West citations it also serves as a bridge from the classroom to the greater range of computer and Internet legal resources.~Andy Gavil, Professor at Howard University

  7. Reasons to Use TWEN: • No IT support generally needed -- it's all server side, so we take care of it! • The software is free and the software that supports the software is free (and it is continually updated by us). • Doesn't negate the use of other software – it provides added benefits for Law school professors and students – they only have to use features that make the most sense for them (citation markup and Westlaw content access, etc). • TWEN (and West) has it's own staff of programmers and help desk individuals to handle TWEN-related issues 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
