The Life • Born on July 26, 1928 in New York, New York • Was considered intelligent despite poor grades in school • Dad, Jack Kubrick, sent him to his uncles house in Pasadena, California • introduced chess to Stanley hoping to find an interest, he soon became a skilled player and took it passionately • On Kubrick’s thirteenth birthday his dad gave him a camera • At age sixteen he took a picture of a news stand vendor selling news paper of presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt's death a day after his death. • Sold the picture to Look Magazine and a year later was hired him as a freelance photography and there youngest employee. Kubrick was still in High School, but dropped out figuring he had a better career in photography. • After many assignments with Look Magazine and a becoming an average movie goer, Kubrick decided to do into film. Kubrick and his friend invested their savings into filming the documentary, Day in the Fight(1951). This was followed by several short commissioned documentaries. But after attracting investors with his previous work and hustling chess games in Central Park Kubrick was able to save enough money to make his first feature length film, Fear and Desire(1953).

Barry Lyndon received seven Oscar nominations Clockwork Orange and Dr. Strangelove both were nominated for three Oscar awards including best picture Won his only Oscar for the direction of 2001: A Space Odyssey In 1997, he received the D.W. Griffith Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Directors Guild of American 1997 Kubrick was awarded the Golden Lion Award at the 54th Venice International Film Festival. Awards and Nominations

Facts of the Master • Went to Columbia University to study literature • Won enough each week in central park to buy groceries for the week • Married three times • Toba Metz 1948-1951 • Ruth Sobotka 1954-1957 • Christina Kubrick 1958-1999 • Refused to talk about his films on set when he was directing and never watched the films when they were completed • Was very secretive about movies to public while in progress • Very reclusive, seldom appeared in public or gave interviews. Hardly photographed.
