  1. Grade 2 Really Wow! Issue Two – Friday 22nd February Getting Acquainted Evening Thank you to all of the families who came along to the Getting Acquainted evening. It is always nice to have the opportunity to get to know our students and their families . We all look forward to building on these discussions and having a successful year together. Clean Up Australia Day Today all the grade twos, along with the rest of Berwick Fields, took part in Clean Up Australia Day. We were so impressed with the enthusiasm displayed by all the grade two students as they helped make the areas in and around Berwick Fields rubbish free. What a great way to show how much we care for our environment! Introducing our Literacy and Mathematics Support Teachers for 2013 In grade two we are lucky enough to have Alison McIntosh and Meredith Smith working with us to support our Literacy and Mathematics programs. Throughout the year they will work in classrooms, with small groups and with individual students as part of the normal classroom program. Summer is still here Although Summer is meant to be drawing to an end, we are still getting some very hot days! Please ensure that your child has a hat and brings a water bottle to school every day! • Literacy Tips • Read to your child every day- anything eg books, newspapers, TV guide,   • signs, menus, recipes, instructions, shopping lists etc. • Show them how YOU write and explain why you do it- eg lists, text • messages, letters, emails etc. • Always encourage use of the lower case letters (rather than capitals) • when writing. • Use of SOUNDS of the letters as in ‘I Spy’ (rather than letter names- ABC etc). • Talk, talk, talk to your child about things that interest them and  about how & why you read and write. The Grade Two team - Amy, Sandi, Leanne, Alison A, Nicole, Lisa, Claire, Paul Meredith and Alison M
