Overview • Chunghwa Telecom run the largest ISP (HiNet) in Taiwan • Leased-Line : > 6,500 (2001/07) • Dial-up : > 2,000,000 • ADSL : > 420,000 • ADSL grow very fast • End of 2001 : 1,000,000 • End of 2002 : 2,000,000 • ADSL broadband service consume a great amount of IP • Time for the future provision of IPv6

  4. 6-Bone Trial (1/6) • CHT-TL start as a leaf site in 1997/12 & a transit site in 1998/11 • Become a backbone site since 1999/02 • Register as CHTTL-TW • Get 3FFE:3600::/24 address prefix • Have built BGP4+ tunnel with some other backbone sites: Sprint, Viagenie, Cisco, Digital-CA and Telebit, etc. • Provide stable transit service to other sites • 3ffe:3600:1::/48 for NDHU • 3ffe:3600:2::/48 for CCITT • 3ffe:3600:3::/48 for NCKU … etc.

Summary • IPv6 technology has stepped from testing stage to initial commercial deployment • Most IPv6 activities in Taiwan are still focused on research and experiment efforts • TWNIC is promoting commercial IPv6 service via integration efforts of ISPs and related industries • Chunghwa Telecom is actively proceeding IPv6 Trial. We expect to get more experience before ready for commercial services
