  2. GHG Reports GHG Data Interface GHG Database Parties GHG submissions Convention & KP Web users from the public and experts • GHG emissions infrastructure established by the secretariat which includes the submission electronic system, the database, the review reports and the new GHG Data Interface • The new data interface contains practically all UNFCCC emission data, for both industrialized and developing countries • The interface is designed to be fully flexible for both the public and experts, the user has various options to access data and can define customized queries on GHG data. • The data interface is publicly available at: http://unfccc.int/ghgdi The UNFCCC Systems Infrastructure

  3. Compilation & Accounting Database GHG Data Interface GHG Reports GHG Database Parties GHG submissions Convention & KP Web users from the public and experts Review and compliance processes KP only The UNFCCC Systems Infrastructure The CAD system established by the secretariat • The CAD capture the outcome of the compliance and reviews. It contains Parties eligibility and the Assigned Amount Data

  4. CDM Registry established by the secretariat • The CDM is designed to promote sustainable development in developing countries and assist industrialised Parties in meeting their emissions reduction commitments • The CDM registry allows forwarding of credits from approved CDM projects to national registries, this electronic system makes the CDM implementation possible Compilation & Accounting Database GHG Data Interface GHG Reports GHG Database Parties GHG submissions Parties National Registries CDM Registry Clean Development Mechanism Projects Convention & KP National registries established by Annex B Parties • Electronic system for tracking KP units • 90% of registries already passed their interoperability testing in order to operating in the registry network and the remaining are scheduled to meet their compliance deadlines Web users from the public and experts credits Review and compliance processes KP only The UNFCCC Systems Infrastructure

  5. Compilation & Accounting Database Parties National Registries International Transaction Log GHG Data Interface GHG Reports GHG Database Parties GHG submissions CDM Registry Clean Development Mechanism Projects Convention & KP Web users from the public and experts credits Review and compliance processes KP only The UNFCCC Systems Infrastructure International Transaction Log established by the secretariat • Provides certainty of delivery under carbon market trading • Occupies central location in the network of registries and ensures that Kyoto-valid transactions may be undertaken • Ensures the integrity of emissions targets under the Kyoto Protocol • Resilient architecture with secondary fail-over facilities and very high availability • Sized to cope with peak loads and scalable to meet evolving market needs

  6. The UNFCCC Systems Infrastructure is ready for the start of the first commitment period The ITL is in a full live operation since 9 November • The CDM registry is also in a full “live” operation, linked to the ITL, the ITL system started receiving live CDM data on 09.11.2007 • The Japanese registry is fully operational and connected to the ITL on 14.11.2007 • Switzerland and New Zealand are scheduled to be fully operational before the end of the year • The remaining registries are expected to start “live” operations in early 2008

  7. “Kyoto cornerstones”: data – policies – infrastructures Policies and measures to reduce emissions Systems & infrastructures to support GHG emissions data and market-based mechanisms Reports on GHG emissions Emission reduction targets under Kyoto Protocol: at least –5% by 2008-2012
