  4. Where it Started • In 1950, Sam Walton Purchased a retail store from Luther E. Harrison. (Bentonville, Arkansas) • He opened “Walton’s 5 & 10” • The town later became Wal-Mart’s national headquarters

  5. Who Started it • Sam Walton • Born on March 29, 1918 • Walton opened the first Wal-Mart in 1962 • Mike Duke, the current CEO of Wal-Mart

  6. Becoming International • Wal-Mart became an international company in 1991 • Operates in 26 countries outside the United States • More than 800,000 associates • Over 5,500 stores internationally
