What it is • Huntington’s disease is a disease that is caused by a defect in chromosome #4. Part of the chromosome, called a CAG repeat, is repeated many more times than it’s supposed to. In a normal person the CAG repeat is repeated 1 to 35 times. In a person with the disease it’s repeated 36 to 125 times.
Symptoms • The main symptom of Huntington’s disease is brain damage. Normal Brain Diseased Brain The darker area has more brain mass than the lighter area.
Other Symptoms • Other symptoms include paranoia, dementia, strange movements, and suicidal tendencies.

Statistics • Huntington’s disease is not very common. Only 1 in 10000 people have it. In the United states about 30000 people have the disease. • If one of your parents has the disease there’s a fifty percent chance you will have it. • 1 to 3 percent of diseased people get the disease even though no one in their family has it.
