  3. WHEN DOES THE SCHOOL START? • Dutchchildren start goingtoschoolwhenthey are 5 yearold • However, 99% ofchildren start the schooloneyearbefore, whenthey are only 4 yearsold.

  4. HOW OLD ARE THE CHILDREN WHEN THEY GO SCHOOL?? • The schooliscompulsoryuntil the pupils turn 18. • The primaryschool (Basisschool) last for 7 years: theywhenthey are 5 yearsold and finishwhenthey are 12 yearsold. • The schoollasts 13 years

  5. After the Basisschool the studentshavetoattend a secondaryschool (Voortgezetonderwijs) • The educationis free and the familiesdon’t havetopay. However the majorityof the schools are controlledby private organization

  6. … AND AFTER THE BASISSCHOOL?? • They are threechoices: - VBO or MBO: professionalschools - HAVO: generalsecondaryschools - VWO:whichis a typeofschoolthatprepares the pupilsfor the University. Itisdivided in twoparts:Atheneumand Gymnasium. • In Hollandthere are speficicschoolsforchildrenwhosufferfrombehaviourdisorders or havedisabilities. They can go toschoolfrom4yearsoldto 20 yearsold. Thisdepends on theirproblems.

  7. THE SCHOOL YEAR AND THE SCHOOL WEEK • The schoolyearlastsabout 200 days and itbegins in August and finishes in June. During the week the studentshavelessononly5days: fromMondaytoFriday

  8. THE ITALIAN SCHOOL

  9. FROM…TO…???? • The school in Italy iscompulsoryfrom6yearsoldto 16 yearsold. • The Constitutionof the Italian Republic saysthat the Educationis open toeveryone (Art. 34)

  10. THE LEVEL OF EDUCATION • There are threeeducation’slevels: • The primaryschool, last 5years • The secondaryschool, whichincludes the middle school (3years) and high school (5years) • The superioreducation, whichincludes the university.

  11. …WHICH POSSIBILITY?? • After the middle school • They are threechoice: • - Liceo, whichpeparesfor the University - Istituto tecnico, the studentslearnabouttecnicaljobs. - Istituto professionale, whichpreparesfor a specific work.

  12. MAYBE YOU DON’T KNOW THAT… Differentlyfrom the Dutchschool system, in Italy itthereisn’t a specificschoolforchildrenwithdisabilities;theyattend the schoolwithotherstudents. In the pasttherewerespecialschoolsalso in Italy, butnotanymore.
