Looking Back…Moving Forward • Food For Thought Grants • Individual – primarily classroom teacher • Teacher Leader Grants • Individual: one classroom at a time • Collaborative: many classrooms with potential impact to school culture • Teacher INNOVATIONGrants • “Accelerator” funds to support educational advancement • Strategy for developing “best practice models”

  4. Teacher Innovation Grants Workshop OUTCOMES: • Understand the timeline • Review proposal guidelines, including budget and rubric • Understand the online application process • Discuss helpful tips • Answer questions

  5. Timeline • Grant Application Available: March 20 • Grant Workshops: March 31/April 2 • Application Deadline: April 28 • Principal Signature: May 1 • Notification of Award: May 30 • Fund Deposit: Prior to 1st Day of School • Recognition:Stars of Education! October 14, 5-7 pm

  6. Eligibilty • Classroom Teacher • Instructional Support • Teacher Assistant **Principals and Assistant Principals are not eligible.** • Media Specialist • Intervention Coordinator • Counselor • School Psychologist • Social worker

Grant Awards Categories Up to $1,000.00 for individual applicant • Impact a single classroom and single group of students • May address a single area of curriculum or could be interdisciplinary implications Up to $3,0000.00 for professional learning teams • Impacts multiple classrooms and many students (grade level, content area, etc) • May impact school culture • May include professional development for the team

Proposal Development General Directions • Proposal Logistics • 2-3 pages: grants that exceed page length WILL NOT BE considered. • MS Word 1997-2003 • Calibri 11 pt. • Draft in MS Word • Allows for word count, spell check and formatting NO reference to you, school, or identifying information in the proposal.

  9. Proposal Development Section Headers: • Give focus to that portion of the proposal • Include total points, with breakdown provided beside each element • Give word requirements • Allow for planning of the overall grant to meet 2-3 pages requirement.

Proposal Development • Project Description: 20 pts – ½ page • Purpose, Vision 2020, Methodology • Specific Area of Focus for Grant: 30 pts - ¾ page • Population, Timeline, Strategies (Research), 4 C’s • Student Achievement & Evaluation: 30 pts – ¾ page • SMART Goals, Data, Data Collection Answer all elements within the section for the opportunity for maximum points.

  11. Proposal Development • Project Extension: 10 pts- ½ page • Sustainability, Sharing • Budget – 10 pts, ½ page AND Excel • Description, Relation to Narrative, Item costs Answer all elements within the section for the opportunity for maximum points.

  12. Proposal Rubric and Scoring • Aligned to each section and question • Score Ranges: 5-1 • Key words for Level 5 • Up to 3 Readers Per Grant Application

  15. Proposal Rubric and Scoring • Follow instructions for the grant application EXACTLY! • Do not include your name or your school's name or any other identifying information in the proposal: e.g., names of teachers, maps, mascots, clubs • Have a non-educator read your grant. Avoid jargon and acronyms. • Meet DEADLINES.
