Objectives الأهداف • Three types of interwoven learning outcomes: • Knowledge • Skills (academic skills) • Disposition • Focus on practiceof skills through: • Repetition and recycling • Facilitative environment (e.g. Centres) for • practice opportunites • extra input • feedback • support (Page1, ECCOs, 2003, revised 2008)

First Week • Add/drop • students can request change of classes • some initial confusion, but will sort itself out • Introductory lessons • personal ideas or ideas from course coordinators • meaningful language activities • Take attendance • use the Banner system via e-services on UAEU website (check with buddy or colleagues how to do this) • if Banner not accessible, keep paper attendance

  7. CGE • CGE = Computer Generated Exams • Will use vocabulary and grammar covered in class. • Week 0= Practice Exam • CGE given every three weeks. • Week 12 will cover all weeks 1-11 vocabulary and grammar

  8. Exams • The Midterm and Final Exam will have two listening tasks and three reading tasks. • Midterm Listening - Played 2x • Lecture 2x • Dialogue 2x • Final Exam - Lecture 2x and dialogue 1x • Midterm and Final Reading One scanning section and two long readings (one is a preview)

  9. Preview Readings • Sent out second week of term for midterm exam = 3 preview readings given- only one used. • Sent out after midterm exam for final exam • (Need to clarify if preview readings are the same for midterm and final) • One reading will never be seen before.

  10. Grading over the term

  11. Course Work Grade • Teacher will create this. • Each worth 5%. • 1% of this will be a iPad CWG • Ideas - Speaking activities, out of class survey, iPad videos, create an audio book for a lower level.

  12. Class Time • 2 hours of class time • 1 hour in a computer lab (quizzes created by me)
