Adding a touch of color • Color models: • RGB (monitor) • CMYK • Four-color, process, full-color • Tint (percent of original color; use palette) • No more than 30 percent if text is over • May need to bold the text • Spot: uses separate ink for each color • Color libraries: PMS/swatch book • Delete unnecessary colors from palette

  3. Choosing paper • Grain • Weight • Weight of 500 sheets at specified sizes • Bulk (thickness or caliper) • Opacity (“show through” quality) • Brightness (reflective quality) • Finish (coated or uncoated)

  4. Choosing paper • Texture • Smoothness is high priority for photo reproduction • Paper grade • Newsprint (cheapest) • Book (textbooks) • Cover

  5. Spacing • In published materials, a period should be followed by only one space. • To remove extra spaces, use the “Change” function in PageMaker. • Find two spaces. • Replace with one space. • Repeat until no instances can be found.
