  1. Cough and Chest Pains: The usual and unusual Symptoms of Acid Reflux Acid Reflux is a commonly occurring condition that affects a major part of the global population. With so many cases being reported every year, there are many symptoms through which the disease presents itself. The discomfort ranges from nausea to difficulty swallowing food as well as ulcerations. But, one of the most common ways via which Acid Reflux presents itself is a painful sensation near the middle part of the chest. This painful sensation is known as heartburn. We’ll take a look at some very common and strange symptoms related to acid reflux. Symptoms related to acid reflux There are many symptoms through which Acid Reflux presents itself. Some of them are common and specific to heartburn but in some other symptoms, it is possible to mistake them as a prelude to other diseases. Familiar symptoms related to Acid reflux include: Chest Pains: The painful sensation can be felt near the breastbone or the lower part of your chest. Also called heartburn, the Acid reflux chest pain episode can last from minutes to hours. These pains can intensify if you lie down or bend after eating. All this is caused due acid splash back in the esophageal lining. Regurgitation: Sometimes, fluid backs up in the esophageal lining. This fluid can be extremely sour and acidic in taste. This is called regurgitation. Post meal pains: Occasionally after a huge meal, the pain can be caused due to a distended stomach. Medication may or may not be required. Some other symptoms might be a little unusual and might be perceived as some other disease. These symptoms include: Cough fits: Due to the fluid back up or the leaking acidic gases, the vocal chords get irritated. This can result in dry acid reflux cough fits which can easily be mistaken for cold or flu symptoms. This can also happen if the spillage backs up in the lungs. A Sore throat: This can easily be misconstrued as cold or flu symptoms as well. Soreness can be caused due to acidic gases building up in the esophagus.

  2. Hoarseness: This is another symptom that can be mistaken as a prelude to something else. After having a meal, there might be problems as your voice might become a little deeper and huskier than usual. Usually, the Symptoms Of Acid Reflux come and go once in a while. But, if the symptoms are repeated more than twice a week for a regular period of time, the person might have a case of Gastro-esophageal Reflux disease. Treatment and changes In the short run, natural remedies and homemade remedies are the best when it comes to alleviating symptoms related to heartburn. Natural remedies include Garlic, Basil leaves etc. and the most commonly used homemade remedy is Baking soda mixed with water. For a long-term treatment plan, medications such as PPIs, H2 Blockers and antacids may be prescribed, depending on the severity of the condition. Making even the slightest changes to your diet and avoiding trigger foods can go a long way in bringing you relief from Acid reflux symptoms.
