  1. Objectives and Development of E-learning at ENSG

  2. Current e-learning Applications & Projects within ENSG/GDTA A. Initial professional training for the students of the ENSG (cycles of engineers and technicians) B. Continuous professional training for the external agents of the ministry for the Equipment (and other organizations) C. Dedicated Portal for the French-speaking community of geomatics D. General education in geography for the pupils & Students of the schools and colleges within the framework of secondary education and also for general public.

  3. A. Initial professional training(cycle of engineers and technicians of the ENSG) • Warehouses of documentation (course, instructions, reports) • Course of office automation (self-training software)  • Course on the space cartography (GDTA, Toulouse and Fleximage, Paris) (example) • Course of geodesy (scenarisation in progress) GDTA Demo

  4. B. Continual professional training for external agents (network of the schools) • Notes and tools for the problems of localization (changes of co-ordinates) with downloadable software (Circé) • Partnership between schools of the Ministry for the Equipment with courses of complementary disciplines • Example of MapInfo (intended for the networks of French users)

  5. C. Dedicated Portal for the French-speaking community • Project developed with the CNIG (the national Council of geographical information) and the participation of French-speaking schools & universities • Portal (http://geoform.ensg.ign.fr ) inventorying long training courses (> 200 H per annum) available in various French-speaking countries (Canada, France, Gabon, Madagascar, Romania, then Belgium, Switzerland, Morocco, Tunisia, etc.) • Warehouses of documentation and scripted course (under development)

  6. D. Training on geographical information - Secondary education • Development of the knowledge and the use of geographical information at the young people and general public by National Education and IGN • Realisation of a teaching server (= warehouse of documentation) at http://pse.ensg.ign.fr offering: -principal concepts of geomatic and techniques applied -case studies with comments of charts on the topics of the teaching of the geography (land use, water, soil erosion) -a glossary & bibliography • realization of a display & handling software for charts and geographical images on different dates to allow the comparison, the juxtaposition and the superposition of documents of different times or nature

  7. Preliminary study on ENSG e-learning’s implementation • Needs and requirements : • Solution for increasing demand in continuous training throughout IGN • Solutions for training of remote personnel and users of SIG information and software • Solutions for foreign trainees and foreign training opportunities like CASITA • Constraints • No Multimedia Unit in the near future • Medium in-house expertise (ENSG) • Limited budget

  8. E-learning Approaches Main usages identified for & by ENSG : • Warehouses with documentation • Test & Orientation to sort trainees and students (simple & more complex quiz) • Scripted Course (Scripted training on e-learning platform and auto-evaluation (not tutored)) • Software teaching (Scripted training not tutored) • Tutored Course (Scripted and tutored training with complete platform, including forum and chat room)

  9. Actors and Targets • Main Actors : (depending on scenario) • E-learning Implementer • Trainer/Teacher • Scenario writer (specialist in e-learning) • The Multimedia Specialist • Tutor • Trainee/Learner • Main Targets : • Students specialized in initial training • Trainees on continuous training • Occasional professional users • Students and general public

  10. Procedures set up & Trials to develop e-learning by teachers 1. Author Guide 2002 2. Multimedia Guide 2003 3. Trial on a Geodesy e-learning course By Didier Bouteloup & Recommandations 4. Building of a Technological Risk Management Course with InerisTrials on Blackboard

  11. Conclusion • Need to carry out several projects in parallel • Some projects will only serve as experiment to progress. • Key questions : • Define the respective roles of each one to organize the co-operation. • evolution of the courses once that they will be put on the Web. • cohesion of the teams of realization and their perennity.
