  2. Motivation ? In Taiwan, Formosa, are many different culture and tribes, one of which is Hakka. Hakka people are known for their virtues, such as thrift attitude and simplicity. They have lived in villages since a long period ago, generally called “Hakka tribes”. Now, Hakka tribes have gradually developed into characteristic ones and become the ideal spots, people may visit on holidays; for example, Nanchang(南庄), Neiwan, Meinong(美濃). Now, we are going to use Neiwan as our topic of project. By means of visiting Neiwan ourselves, hope we can realize the beautiful Hakka culture more.

  5. Neiwan is located in Hsinchu County, ‘‘Hengshan Town’’. Location The majority of Neiwan inhabitants is Hakka. Here

  7. The Origin of Neiwan At early time, Neiwan had a laudatory title “The village of Cherry blossoms”.

  8. The Origin of the name “Neiwan” A legend has it that Atayal Tribes consider the local topography similar to bananas , and ” banana ” in Atayal language sounds like ”Neiwan”. Looking from the ‘‘Pan long bridge’’ to the ‘‘Neiwan bridge’’, the terrain of Neiwan looks like a crescent. That is the origin of the name, Neiwan.

  9. In early times, Neiwan was inhabited by Atayal. Until the end of Qing Dynasty, there were twelve families of Hakka people coming over Neiwan. With the territorial sovereign right threatened. Atayal conflicted with Hakka people. During the Japanese Colonial period, Japanese intended to occupy the forest resources by expelling disobedient Atayal from Neiwanby force; however, Hakka people were still allowed to reside in Neiwan. Consequently, Hakka People have become the majority in Neiwan so far. Evolution of Neiwan

  10. The stone was built in memory of the contributions and scarifications of ancestors Neiwan Train Station

  11. It was built in Japanese colonial period. It still retains the Japanese-style bungalows and the roof covered with”Japanese culture tile”. It is the unprecedented Japanese-style building in Neiwan. Neiwan Police Station

  12. Neiwan old-streets have developed tourism, including the antique buildings and a lot of delicious snacks. The Old Street of Neiwan

  13. Neiwan Theater is the only two-story movies theater, made of wood completely in Taiwan. It has been rebuilt since abandoned many years ago. Now it is a multiple restaurant where people can enjoy Hakka gourmandize and appreciate old movies. Neiwan Theater

  15. It’s a kind of local snack only in Hengshan. With the leaf of butterfly ginger wrapped outside, the rice dumpling tastes more delicious, with much fragrance of Butterfly Ginger inside. Butterfly Ginger Rice Dumpling

  19. Tung Oil Flower The Special in Neiwan Tung Oil Flower, a famous Hakka flower, is also called “May Snow”. They will fall down from the trees when the flowers ripe in every April and May.

  20. Conclusion Neiwan is a good land with simple and hospitable people, delicious Hakka food and wonderful scenery, just like a paradise where we can get relief from reality and enjoy ourselves in the wonderful landscape.
